9/11 - From Tragedy Comes Hope
As the 10th anniversary of 9/11 draws near, you might be wondering how you can take part in the upcoming September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance.
There are many options on 911DayofService.org: join the 9/11 Day Tribute Movement by posting a tribute to a loved one lost on 9/11, pledging to volunteer at a local charity, or supporting your favorite cause.
David Paine and Jay Winuk are the creators of the 9/11 Day website and co-founders of the non-profit organization, MyGoodDeed. The idea for MyGoodDeed first began after the 9/11 attacks that tragically killed nearly 3,000 people, including Jay’s younger brother, Glenn.
MyGoodDeed and HandsOn Network, a volunteer service organization, are co-leading the 9/11 Day Tribute Movement to honor the victims of September 11th in the most beautiful way they know how—by turning September 11th into the single largest day of charitable service in U.S. history.
There are countless ways to take part in honoring the victims of 9/11; once you decide your tribute, share it on 911DayofService.org.
If you happen to live in New York City, you might have seen the phenomenon that has taken place for the past 9 years at Ground Zero on 9/11. Two beams of light soar up into the sky to honor all those lost in the tragic event and celebrate the spirit of all those that have helped to rebuild and renew the city. This Tribute in Light art installation is supported by Creative Time, a New York nonprofit that produces public art projects. In turn they have partnered with Artspace, a company that help collectors and aspiring collectors discover, learn about and collect fine art. They are offering a limited edition of moving prints (see above) that capture the beauty and poignancy of the project.
