A Photo Finish
Picture perfect: this photo competition helps to build water wells in Mozambique and showcase the work of up-and-coming shutterbugs.
Everyone loves a little competition, don't they? The good folks behind River to Well have come up with some added incentive to step up to the plate: entry fees from its international photo competition go directly toward the construction of water wells in Mozambique, and so do all the proceeds from the sales of the 10-inch prints that result from each year's contest. They're sold at $35 a pop, nearly all of which goes to a very worthy cause.
The coolest part about the competition? It's run entirely by volunteers -- friends since college -- who don't make one red cent. 100% of entry fees and gallery sales (minus printing and shipping costs) go directly to River to Well's partner organization, VOX United, which builds and maintains wells in places that critically need them. Prizes for winners are donated by sponsors brought on board by River to Well's volunteers. The contest is open to amateur and professional shutterbugs alike. Last call for entries is September 30th.
Doing good in the world simply by entering a contest or supporting its participants? That's the art of competition at its finest.
