Beldi: #73
Wanderlust is something we take very seriously at Milkshake. But just because you are afflicted with the travel-hungry disease doesn't mean your paycheck can support the jetsetter lifestyle. Want a taste of travel without leaving your living room? Make your space a little more global with the goods at Beldi.
Why We Love It!
Beldi is a beautifully curated online boutique that sells traditional and authentic crafts from Morocco. Founded by Chafiq Ennaoui and Aimee Bianca, the shop carries everything from brightly colored woven rugs to gorgeous painted plates. The couple seeks to highlight lovely, traditional items—not the tourist-trap junk you can buy in a typical marketplace.
According to their website, the name "Beldi" loosely translates to "country" in Moroccan Arabic. They describe this as "meaning the traditional, authentic and the folk—basically the heart and soul of Morocco." Chafiq and Aimee chose this name because it reflects their commitment to highlighting goods that would actually appear in a traditional Moroccan home. Take, for example, their line of leather poufs. Poufs have been a common feature in Moroccan decor for centuries, and their handsewn and hand dyed poufs are a perfect example of local craftsmanship.
Feast Your Eyes...
If you are so inclined, you could outfit every room in your house with goods from Beldi. However, we're particularly loving the kitchenware, like these jewel-colored hand-blown recycled tea glasses, or this handmade traditional ceramic plate. With its vibrant pattern and Mandala-like design, it's almost too pretty to cover with food!
Price Check
Items at Beldi really run the gamut when it comes to price. If you're on a budget, you can get a hint of local flavor with a hand-blown glass ($5). Bigger spenders can indulge in a luscious rug, which range from $295 to $750.
