California Dreamin
Go west my friend and go a little green while you’re at it.
With so many low-cost airlines going to northern California these days (Jet Blue, Virgin America) why not take a long weekend to soak in the sights, get healthy, reduce your carbon footprint and see how you can go green without even trying.
The Solage Calistoga resort (which happens to be a favorite spot of actor and eco-activist Adrien Grenier’s) is set in the heart of the beautiful NoCal wine country and is built with all natural materials, including pebbled floors in the shower that is also stocked with organic bath products.
Stay here and you will wake up to the smell of locally grown coffee and dine in the evening on a meal prepared with local and sustainable foods while enjoying a glass of biodynamic wine.
You must try the Mudslide treatment at the resort’s Spa Solage, starting with a mineral spring soaking tub treatment followed by a mud bath made of essential oils and volcanic ash. Then off to yoga, Pilates, or even another spa treatment.
Pry yourself away from the lush property, hop on your complimentary bike and head into town. The Oxbow Public Market is home to the best local farmers and cheese-makers. Visit some of the many certified organic wineries in the area like Rubicon Estate (owned by Coppola) or Frog's Leap Winery.
Not a meat eater? Dine at Ubuntu, one of the best (one Michelin star) meatless joints in nearby Napa.
Sounds like a fun-filled getaway … we are a little green with envy!
