COATT: #71
So far, our Around The World series has focused on gorgeous finds from far-flung destinations (like Bali and Ethiopia). But there are plenty of amazing artisans working right here in America, which is why we're turning our spotlight to jewelry designer Rebecca Coagan Scharlatt, founder of the unique and beautiful line COATT.
Why We Love It!
COATT necklaces have a delightfully simple premise: Using gold fill tubes and beads, Rebecca spells out words and phrases in morse code. Using dots and dashes, every necklace contains a secret message, conveyed in the most elegant fashion. Simple enough to wear with jeans and a t-shirt, but pretty enough to slip on over a dress, these necklaces will quickly become a staple of your wardrobe. And on top of being extremely versatile, they're also highly customizable. In addition to words like "love," "friend," and "lucky," COATT also offers the option to spell out any phrase you desire—so long as it fits on the cord!
Every piece from COATT is handmade in a family-run studio in Portland, Oregon and each piece is a labor of love. Even the name itself is verbally significant: COATT is a combination of the first three letters of Rebecca's last name (Coagan) and the last three letters of her husband's last name (Scharlatt). Aw!
Our Pick
While the one-word necklaces are all lovely, we particularly adore the sentiment behind the "Wild Horses" design. Of course, this is shorthand for the phrase "wild horses couldn't keep me away," but we rather like to think of it as a testament to our untamed nature. Consider it a lovely way to show off your spunk!
