Dine Out:Save Lives
Things you can get for $1:
A can of beans.
A pack of Skittles.
A handful of screws.
An iPhone app.
Or …
Forty days worth of clean water for a child in need.
March 20–26 is World Water Week. During this week, thousands of restaurants across America will ask patrons to donate $1 to "pay" for the water they traditionally receive for free. These proceeds will go to UNICEF's Tap Project.
During World Water Week, patrons can dine at some of the best restaurants around the country, including One Market and Lark Creek Steak in San Francisco, Firefly in Washington DC and Ocean Grill in New York. Superstar chefs James Beard-honored Marcus Samuelsson (who also happens to be a UNICEF Ambassador) and Top Chef's very own Tom Colicchio of Craft and 'Wichcraft are spear-heading The Tap Project's sponsorship efforts.
Besides just indulging in a night of eating and drinking (or blindly opening your wallet), there are various ways to get involved with The Tap Project, including:
1. Dine and Recruit: plan your meals at Tap Project-supported restaurants during World Water Week or recruit the management at your favorite restaurant to get involved and spread the word.
2. Host a UNICEF Tap Project Event: from bake sales to dinner parties, The Tap Project has dozens of fundraising ideas to help you get involved.
3. Spread Awareness: As with any cause, the more people that know about it, the more people will help. Facebook, Tweet, text, and email your friends, family and acquaintances about the importance of water sanitation.
Be sure to check out The Tap Project's map of participating restaurants near you and dedicate your next night on the town to saving lives.
Since its inception in 2007, the UNICEF Tap Project has raised almost $2.5 million in the U.S. and has helped provide clean water for millions of children globally. Now in its fifth year, the award-winning UNICEF Tap Project, is a nationwide campaign sponsored by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. The first program of its kind, the UNICEF Tap Project has become a dynamic movement that affords everyone the opportunity to help provide the world’s children with safe, clean water.
