Don’t Forget to Wear Red Tomorrow!
Tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of National Wear Red Day, the awareness event promoted by the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement and The Heart Truth®, a National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute initiative.
Together these two campaigns are coordinating a full (and fun!) 24 hours dedicated to stopping the number one killer of American women. Here are some of the highlights:
- Actress Elizabeth Banks is already cracking us up with a new YouTube video made especially for National Wear Red Day. Banks partnered with Go Red for Women to direct and star in “Just A Little Heart Attack,” a 3-minute video about a busy mother of two who isn’t taking her heart seriously. The clip is guaranteed to make you giggle.
- Banks is also hosting the Red Dress Dash at noon at Macy’s Herald Square. If you’re not a New Yorker, visit meetup.com/GoRedForWomen to find a Red Dress Dash and other events near you.
- Before you leave the house in every red piece of clothing you own, snap a picture for Facebook and you can be a part of Go Red for Women’s Wear Red Day Challenge! Your brightly-colored photo or video can win in one of 13 award categories by earning the most “likes” before February 23rd.
- The 10th Red Dress Collection, one of Fashion Week's biggest highlights, is scheduled for next Wednesday. In this runway show, the world’s best designers dress famous women in the official symbol of The Heart Truth®—the red dress. Check your favorite fashion site for a live stream of the event at 7pm from The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.
Don't forget: Have a heart and wear some red!
To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women – a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.
