Drink Your Chocolate Please
When fair trade isn’t quite enough, there’s always direct trade.
Taza Chocolate is the bean-to-bar producer of amazing hot chocolates. Each package of hot chocolate disks is numbered, and you can go online to see how your batch was made. The company has direct buying relationships with cocoa farmers in the Dominican Republic who receive above-market prices for their beans and are paid immediately.
Mexican-style stone-ground hot chocolate is Taza’s specialty. The company caters to traditionalists with a cacao puro version, but there also are a few other oh so delicious flavors you might not have tried before – yerba mate, cinnamon, vanilla, guajillo chili, and salted almond. You can melt or grate these bars into water or milk, or just nibble away at them. We promise not to tell anyone.
Taza ticks all the boxes:
Organic? You bet.
Gluten-free? Why yes!
Certified Kosher? Of course.
Vegan? That, too.
Soy-free? Yep.
Irresistible? Without a doubt.
The company uses compostable wrapping material on its hot chocolates (which are all hand-wrapped, by the way). You can even recycle or compost all of the materials they use to ship your chocolatey deliciousness.
This is chocolate you can feel good about giving – and eating!

P.S. If you’re feeling creative in the kitchen, why not try making a Milkshake with these hot chocolate disks?
Taza has a direct purchasing model for buying cacao beans, called Taza Chocolate Direct Trade. It is at the heart of their business. With Direct Trade, they are committed to maintaining direct relationships with the cacao producers and compensating them fairly for the high quality cacao they produce.
