Gimme Five!
Christine Hutchison was on her honeymoon in Bali when she discovered gorgeous handbags, purses, and jewelry made by local artists—and got a great idea. During the trip, a tour guide told Hutchison how just five dollars a month could change the lives of one family in Bali.
That great idea became Five Accessories, a fashionable accessories company that share their profits with different charities.
Five Accessories is also helping people closer to home. As close as Chicago actually! Two years ago, the company launched another collection of products called Off the Street. The new collection features green products including home décor and jewelry made from refuse collected from the streets of Chicago. Think bottle cap bracelets and photo frames made of ticket stubs.
And the best part is... each product comes with a picture and story of the person who made it. Very cool and very unique. The program has already helped many formerly homeless people find a consistent job to keep them off the streets.
Gimme Five(Accessories) anytime!
If you could start a company with a give back component, who would you help?
