Good Play - Coldplay
Blind Item: what sexy British rock star with an equally talented and gorgeous wife has been one of Oxfam's most high profile supporters for the past decade?
Clocks, The Scientist, Viva La Vida ... ring a bell? Ding ding ding! You’re right ... it is Chris Martin of Coldplay. Chris and the band traveled to Haiti back in 2003 and witnessed first hand how hard it was to make a living as a farmer under the current rules. The lead singer even took time out to meet with the World Trade Organization's director while on tour in Mexico to persuade him to change the rules of trade.
Chris signed on immediately as an ambassador for Oxfam to campaign for Fair Trade. If you are a Coldplay fan, (and if you aren’t, shame on you) you might have noticed Chris wearing a MTF (Make Trade Fair) shirt during concerts and tour promotions.
Over the years they have performed at concerts for Oxfam all over the world and continue to speak out and push to make world trade rules work for poor countries.
Give a shout out of thanks to Coldplay for being so dedicated to Fair Trade and buy (listen to it here) their newest single, Every Tear is a Waterfall.
And while you’re at it find out more about how you can be a rockstar for farmers!
Oxfam is an international confederation of 15 organizations working together in 98 countries and with partners and allies around the world to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice. They work directly with communities and we seek to influence the powerful to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them.
