Good Seeds, Great Bread
Dave Dahl wasn't always the kind of guy you would want to meet in the bread aisle. Years ago, this now-famous baker was a self-described "kuncklehead drug addict" who spent years in and out of the prison system, both in Massachusetts and Oregon. But this ex-con decided to turn his life around and return to his roots. In 2004, Dave decided to follow in his father's footsteps and get back in the bakery. And thus, Dave's Killer Bread was born.
But this isn't just a story about how Dave turned his life around (though that is an inspiring tale!) it's also about good bread, plain and simple. Dave's Killer Bread is an all-natural treat made with organic flower and extra seeds, which give it a distinctive nutty flavor. It has more protein, fewer carbohydrates and less sodium than most commercial brands.
The company, based out of Oregon, currently offers several different types of bread, from The Killer Good Seed loaf (which is bulked up with organic whole flax, sunflower and black sesame seeds) to the Sin Dawg (a temptingly sweet organic cinnamon roll). According to their website, Dave's Killer Bread will also soon offer bagels—or in Dave's witty words, "Good Seed Halos."
And you know what's the best part of this homegrown story? Dave's Killer Bread is now available in stores across the western states, including Costco and Safeway. For those of us east of Utah, there's an online shop that will deliver loaves of Sin Dawgs, Peace Bombs or whatever killer combination you dream up.
