Inkwell - Look Well - Do Well
How would you like to be an intern for Sean (Diddy) Combs?
After graduating from Howard University with a major in fashion merchandising, Roslyn Johnson snagged the job of assistant to Sean (Diddy) Comb’s stylist. After that lucky break, she moved on to Saks Fifth Avenue, immersing herself in the fashion world and cultivating a love for classic designers while maintaining her passion for the rich, vibrant patterns of tribal cloths and ethnic designs.
When Roslyn was ready to try her hand at designing, she had the foresight and artistic talent to fuse African mud cloth from Mali with elegant American design, resulting in the Inkwell Collection. Inkwell was named after a beach on Martha’s Vineyard where many well-to-do African Americans own homes.
Roslyn realized the name has a greater significance saying, “I believe we are all created with a reservoir of unique ‘ink’ that we are purposed to use and leave our mark on the world.”
The Mali mud cloth is hand-woven using natural materials, and the cloth is dyed with exotic plant juices, teas and mud, which is a centuries-old method. The traditional process creates geometric patterns and colors, which historically were used to tell stories, reveal secrets and signify social status.
One look at these beautiful garments and they will certainly speak to you!
