Invisible Children
Does it seem a little quieter around here?
No doubt it is and that's because since 7:00 last night, 16,483 people have pledged to stay completely silent for 25 hours.
It all started eight years ago, when three young filmmakers went to Africa in search of a story. The story they found, although gruesome, needed to be told. The story started a movement. The movement is known as Invisible Children.
Invisible Children (IC) uses film as the primary vehicle to help restore peace to Northern Uganda. For the past 25 years, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda (GoU) have been fighting a lethal war where innocent civilians - including children - are caught in the middle.
The first IC film traced the plight of these children who were abducted in their sleep, forced to bear arms and risked their lives as child soldiers in Joseph Kony's rebel war.
Today, IC has numerous programs on the ground in Uganda to rebuild schools destroyed by the war and create educational, employment, and economic rebirth in the region. They recently released the first of a three-part webisode entitled, The Protection Plan, chronicling the "killing, mutilation, and abduction" still going on in the region. In the webisode you'll see first hand the work IC roadies are doing to help those in need.
Every silent pledger has donated $25 to fund The Protection Plan. Each donated dollar and hour pledged represents one year of Joseph Kony's reign of terror over the villages he stalks and the child soldiers he has abducted.
Even though you might not be able to give everyone the silent treatment today, you can still donate $25 or help in other ways.

The Invisible Children Bracelet Campaign (ICBC) aims to provide employment opportunities to vulnerable displacement camp residents by giving them the chance to earn a good income by making culturally unique bracelets. Selling the bracelets in the US, IC has been able to raise funds for its Legacy Scholarship Program and empower adults living in the camps. Each box comes with two bracelets and a short film about the child behind the color. To date there are seven colors, the newest, Brown is for Tony follows Tony’s friendship with Invisible Children filmmaker Laren Poole and the triumphs and tragedies they’ve endured along the way.
