Keep This In Mind
Out of sight, out of mind. Whoever coined this phrase ought to be ... anyway, although yet another disaster has struck here at home in the South with the powerful tornadoes, the devastation and destruction caused by the earthquake in Japan may be out of sight but hopefully not out of our minds.
For the always fresh, vegan, natural brand Lush the disaster really hit home as they have 145 shops, a factory and a staff of 1600 in Japan. They have launched 3 limited edition Charity Pots ($5) filled with creamy body lotion, with funds going directly to those working on the immediate humanitarian and animal welfare needs of Japan. 100% of proceeds will go to these causes: Rescue Stock Yard, NGO Collaboration Centre for HANSHIN QUAKE Rehabilitation, and Animal Peace.
The always-chic Gucci has rolled out an affordable (yes really) $100 bracelet that sports a round silver pendant inscribed with “GUCCI LOVES YOU.” The red and white calfskin band honoring the Japanese flag is closed with the signature Gucci horse bit buckle. Sales from the bracelet will benefit the Japanese Red Cross Society, and can been found at Gucci stores worldwide or ordered by phone.
Juicy Couture has taken the classic T-shirt and lovingly added a twist to the Japanese Flag motif on the front and then scrawled “Juicy Loves Japan” across the back in script in a show of solidarity with the people of Japan. 100% of proceeds from the adorable shirt will go directly to the American Red Cross. The limited-edition tee ($48) will only be available until May15 at all Juicy Couture stores and online at Juicy Couture.
Keep the Japanese in your minds and in your hearts.
The Japanese Red Cross Society was started in 1887 as a philanthropic society. When the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco hit, they stepped in and gave $146,000 to the American Red Cross. In 1986 they instituted HIV screenings at every blood center in Japan. Today, the society has programs for safety service, Red Cross volunteers, nursing education, as well as assisting in domestic and international disaster relief. They have over 12 million individual members.
