Let’s Go to the Movies
Here's something worth watching: an innovative website connecting entertainment to education, empowering audiences to make a difference.
Sometimes, we just want to go to the movies and laugh our heads off, snuggle with the ones we love or escape our worries for an hour or two. Other times, though, we want to be moved... inspired... spurred into action. Luckily, when we're feeling the latter, a website called CineCause literally has just the ticket.
CineCause pulls together films that highlight a social or environmental issue with charities that speak to the problems they feature. It gives moviegoers the power to find films that inspire them, and then gives them the information and access they need to make a donation or get involved in the causes those films tackle. For those of us who love to fall down the rabbit hole of the internet, the site cross-references articles about each film, trailers and screening information, and direct links to related charities.
If, for example, you saw Beasts of the Southern Wild this summer and left the theater wondering how in the world you could help people in situations similar to the ones the characters faced, CineCause has a page dedicated to the film. (Incidentally, it includes a suggestion to link up with Habitat for Humanity or One x One -- perfectly appropriate for the movie's story line.)
So, no more sifting through screen after screen of slasher movies and slapstick silliness to get to the good stuff. To coin a phrase from one of our favorite films, Cool Hand Luke: this site turns an average night at the movies into an opportunity to be a real world-shaker.
