Look Before You Leap
Safe investments. Stable housing. Job security. After the time that many of us have had since the Great Recession, minimizing risk sounds like an extremely attractive proposition. But radical change rarely follows when all is predictable and safe. So The Leapyear Project encourages you to take a little walk on the wild side: take a calculated risk to change your life and the world.
When founder Victor Saad realized that 2012 was a leap year, it inspired him to take the risk of developing his own MBA and social change. Victor is a connector of people, so it wasn’t long before one man’s project turned into a movement. Through Facebook and partnerships with tools like Cowbird, leapers from all around the world are forming a community of encouragement, inspiration, and constant surprises.
The Good News...
It’s fun! A leap can be anything you choose, and perusing others’ projects is a surefire way to get inspired to start your own. They range from the poignant (like searching for biological parents) to the playful – like making a beautifully photographed sandwich for all fifty of our nation’s states. No recipe or roadmap? No problem. Making your own rules and being vulnerable enough to learn as you go along is a big part of what makes leaping so addictive.
Take The Leap!
The Leapyear Project always has creative partnerships in the offing, including a collaboration with Threadless launching this summer that will result in some fantastically creative risk-inspired dudes. But in the meantime: leap! You can do this with friends, with your family, or all by yourself. Start a ballet company, throw more parties, do more yoga, wear less makeup. That’s the crazy thing about calculated risk: pushing yourself off balance and out of your comfort zone, you just might find that you stumble into a more secure and solid authentic self.
Be brave! What kind of risk do you want to take?
