LOVE the Bag!
It all started in 2008, when a lovelorn Kenyan fisherman happened upon the studio of a Swiss artist. He came looking for work, and she was looking for some old tanga. Tanga is the material used by the African fisherman for sails, and this ingenious artist wanted to use the battered, sun-bleached, weathered canvas to paint on.
The fisherman returned a few days later with plenty of tanga, and together they painted images, wrote sayings and poems, and shared the message of love on the fabric.
The sails turned into bags, which were hand stitched and crafted by local Kenyans, and lined with durable nylon. These one of a kind bags carry inspirational images and messages. You will carry a unique art piece that has withstood countless sails over the Indian Ocean. The bags are part of the Ashé Collection, that 100% supports women's health, education and microfinance programs in Africa through the UNITE The World With Africa organization.
We have no doubt you will feel just a little more love and a little more luck when you sail off on your own adventure with your Ali Lamu bag.
