Oh, Mo!
Love 'em or hate 'em, moustaches will be gracing the faces of men the world over for the rest of the month. Thankfully, it's for a great cause.
Mo Money, Honey
You might notice an uptick in the amount of men sporting an abundance of facial hair throughout the month of November. That's because a little initiative that began years ago in Melbourne, Australia has become a global phenomenon: the very hairy wonder known as Movember.
Its goal: to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, and to act on that knowledge, thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment.
What the What?
What started as a simple campaign to promote awareness of men's health issues like prostate and testicular cancer has grown (ahem) into a worldwide movement raising funds and fostering conversations about topics on which men have traditionally kept rather quiet.
These days, a guy can register for free on Movember's official website and spend the month raising funds as coworkers, social media followers, friends and family members watch his face transform from a clean-shaven, recognizable version of itself into that of a grizzly bear or a modern-day version of Salvador Dali.
"Mo Bros" effectively become walking, talking billboards for men's health throughout the 30 days of November.
Last year, the campaign raised more than $126 million.
This year, you can help.
