Passed Down And Paid Forward
Everyone knows of Warren Buffett and his incredible achievements, however, there is another Buffett who has made a name for himself... son Howard. The middle of the Buffett's three offspring, he has a love of farming and manages and runs the Howard G. Buffett Foundation (HGBF) and has been quietly partnering with organizations worldwide to plant the seeds of self-sufficiency and sustainable farming. Howard is making an impact and his cause is one to follow.
HGBF INITIATIVES
A school-feeding project gives families food when they send their sons and daughters to school— feeding the family and keeping young minds learning and striving.
The Global Water Initiative aims to ensure clean drinking water for all. And the foundation champions no-till farming techniques, which minimize erosion and the depletion of soil quality. More crops, less painful work!
Agriculture and Nutrition initiatives are at work in conjunction with the World Food Programmes, Purchase for Progress.
HGBF Mission
For HGBF, it’s all about empowering communities to become self-sustaining. So they focus on the most basic needs: reliable food supplies, clean water, sanitation practices, and education to lift future generations even higher. Second tier efforts are geared towards nutrition, forced migration and development of journalists, to keep students inspired and government accountable.
1.1 Billion
People live without access to clean drinking water
2.6 billion are without proper sanitation.
In Africa alone, 80 million families who make their living from farming can sometimes use all of their income just to provide food.
WHY WE LOVE HOWARD
Over the past decade, his foundation has funded projects in over 74 countries across six continents. HGBF focuses on areas of the world that are in difficult environments - where many donors are reluctant to work.
He is his own man and his inspiring work is the definition of paying it forward: he's directly funding the future.
