Prints, Patterns, and Textiles—Oh My!
In 2008, Harper Poe went to South America to build houses for Habitat for Humanity. While she was there, she became entranced with the bright colors and amazing patterns used by indigenous weavers. She wanted to share these fabulous fabrics with her friends in the States, and so she started Proud Mary Textiles to support the artisans and spread the joy.
Why We Love It!
Like Harper, we love a good pattern, and Proud Mary has dozens of 'em. Most of Proud Mary's accessories and home goods are handmade by seamstresses in Guatemala, though they have used fabrics from South Africa and Peru as well. From the brightly colored pillows to the practical totes, every piece is original, well-made and cheerful enough to brighten your day.
The Good News...
Harper's humanitarian mission didn't end when she parted ways with Habitat for Humanity. Proud Mary is founded on the belief that all people should be paid a fair wage and the company is fully committed to creating long-lasting, sustainable relationships with their talented artisans.
Our Pick?
The color mint is everywhere this Spring and Proud Mary's Gradient Mint Striped Bucket Bag is the perfect way to indulge in the trend without going overboard. Think mint is hard to match? Think again! And at 16" high and 10" wide, it's the perfect size for a summer tote.
Price Check
Tote bags and accessories range from $68 to $96 and pillows run around $130. But just in case you find that pricey, remember: Every piece you buy helps support artistic talent that would otherwise go unnoticed. Good design, and good karma!
