Real Words From Wise Women
With age, comes wisdom. It can be easy to forget this simple fact, especially when we are constantly being told by advertisers and media that "new" is always better. But there are few things as important as respecting your elders. Need a reminder? Check out Get Real! Wise Women Speak.
This inspiring documentary film focuses on highlighting the lives and insights several extraordinary women—including Jane Fonda, Marianne Williamson, Nikki Giovanni and Della Reese—while celebrating the breadth and depth of knowledge that comes with experience.
Get Real! is a creation from Third Fire Films, which is named for the "inner fire" that is sparked in the third stage of a person's life. This fire comes with wisdom, age, and experience. It is this fire—this drive to continue achieving, growing, and changing the world—that Get Real! documents in several brilliant and inspiring individuals.
Director and producer Jodi Kimberlin explains that she wanted the movie to give voice to a group that is often overlooked. “Approximately sixty million American women are over the age of fifty,” says Kimberlin. “Growing older can be an adventure which bestows the freedom to truly become a Wise Woman. With this documentary I want to celebrate this extraordinary time in a woman’s life and create a counterpoint to the youth-obsessed media that bombards women day after day with superficial and unrealistic images.”
Get Real! Wise Women Speak has already won numerous awards and received quite a few accolades from critics, including winner of the Audience Award at the Soho Film Festival and winner of the Mission Award at the Miami Women's International Film Festival.
