Red Red Wine, You Make Me Feel So Fine
Imagine having to tell your little boy that he has to undergo a serious cardiac operation to repair a hole in his heart. Then, under a year later, you have to tell him he needs yet another operation. Fortunately the little boy, Colby Groom is now living a happy and healthy life thanks to his St. Jude Medical Valve.
One day, while walking through the family vineyards, Colby asked his dad to make him a wine. Certainly this was an odd request from a 10 year old, but what Colby had in mind was to use the proceeds to raise money for heart related charities. Now it just so happens that Colby’s dad is Daryl Groom, an eight-time "Winemaker of the Year" and head of Groom Australian Wines.
The resulting wine is a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Shiraz, Petite Sirah and Merlot, that is produced by Groom in partnership with Treasury Wine Estates, home to Beringer and Penfolds. "This is a unique and generous red wine, just as Colby is a unique and generous child," Daryl Groom says. "I blended five different grape varieties to make a red that's juicy and velvety smooth, with rich fruit flavors and a soft finish."
The Groom family have used their passion for winemaking to give back. Their love for Colby is evident in this delicious and easy drinking wine. They have already raised $100,000, all of which will be donated to the American Heart Association and other heart health causes, including St. Jude’s Medical Foundation.
If red wine is good for the heart, then drinking Colby Red is twice as good. Colby Red is sold at 4,500 stores nationwide including Walgreens, or can be bought online for only $12.99 per bottle.
Buy some wine, drink up and help Colby reach his goal of raising $225,000 in 2011.
