Retro-Cool & Sustainably Chic
You know that girl at every party, the one who shows up with her hair in a messy bun and in a dress that looks too sharp to be vintage but too cool to off the rack? She makes you want to rock formal shorts and you suspect her middle name must be "pulling it off." Well, now you can be that girl, thanks to Afia.
Why We Love It!
All the clothes at Afia are chic, colorful, and fun. The silhouettes—which include everything from cropped tops to peplum skirts—are effortlessly fashionable and the bright colors and retro-inspired patterns make each hand-woven article an amazing statement piece for the upcoming summer.
The Good News...
Afia was founded by Meghan Sebold after a trip to Ghana in 2006, where she discovered that West African women may have an abundance of talent, but they don't have the means for showcasing their amazing work. In order to promote the economic growth and development, all Afia clothing is sewn by Ghanaian seamstresses earning a fair wage. Creating these sustainable products provides the women a source of steady income and employment—not to mention an international platform for their skills.
Our Pick?
These shorts are among our favorites from the Summer 2012 line (available now!). Dubbed the “70’s runner” in Turquoise Warrior, this item is right on cue with its chevron inspired pattern and vivid color palette. Pair them with a simple top to let the shorts take center stage.
