This sounds like a pretty good business plan - get an Airstream trailer, load up all your gear, convince your brother it is a great idea, and take off across the country.

Wait, where’s the business you ask?

This is where it gets fun - Walter and Patrick Hessert decided to launch a “Million Dollar Road Trip” using first their own money (mainly from Walter’s post college stint as a manny) and then by selling ads to small businesses to put on the Airstream. Crisscrossing the country with stops at marquis events, they are promoting their advertisers and celebrating the American entrepreneurial spirit while “inspiring young people to dare to dream and to do, to think and act boldly now.”

The coolest part of the MDRT is its Inspiration Grant Program. Every other Sunday, the brothers award $500-$1000 to an entrepreneur under 35 who has big dreams and bold plans. Every stop on the itinerary they look for movers and shakers to apply, as well as accepting nominations through their web site.

After the candidates are posted, a voting free-for-all ensues, favorites are selected and the candidate with the most votes at 5 p.m. wins. The Inspiration Grant winner receives a no-strings cash prize and free advertising on the Airstream.  

So far a budding jewelry business, an up-and-coming brewery, a fitness guru and an actress, have received the MDRT grant.
