Spill The Wine, Save A Tree
Let’s face it: we’d all like to think that our drinking habits make the world a sweeter, more harmonious place. But what if that glass of Carmenere really did result in a more beautiful world? Chilean Root: 1 Wine is putting its money where its grapes are on that score, and every sip you take can help them with a massive reforestation project. Bottoms up!
Why We Love It!
Deforestation is no joke – we lose around a million acres of forest annually in America alone, to say nothing of the rate in the developing world. Root: 1 prides itself that its vines come from ungrafted stock; a focus on conservation and protection comes with the territory. And it is delicious territory indeed – their Cabernet Sauvignon consistently tops reviewers’ lists.
The Good News...
The company has partnered with American Forests’ Global ReLeaf initiative, which has planted over 40 million trees since 1990. Through their “Together We Can Plant a Forest” program, now in its third year, $1 from each purchase funds the planting of a tree up to $10,000. That will offset 10,000 tons of carbon – and cover an amount of land equivalent to 50 football fields!
Our Pick
In the summertime, there is nothing nicer than a cool, crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Widely carried in supermarkets – and hovering around a sweet spot of $12 a bottle – you’ll be sipping your way to a greener world in no time. You altruist, you!
