Strength to Draw On
Those old receipts and backs of envelopes aren’t the best places to jot down phone numbers and whimsical doodles. Let’s face it, you need a notebook—a high-quality, page-turner of a sketchbook so that you can keep your notes and drawings in check.Even better if your new notebook means that a kid in the hospital gets one, too.
Megabolt is using art to help children keep fighting through their illnesses with its Sketchbook Project. For every sketchbook that you buy through Megabolt, the organization donates an identical book to a child in the hospital. You can keep tabs on your sketchbook’s twin, too—the books are hand-numbered, so you can log on to the website to discover who receives yours.
And you’ll get an added course in art appreciation: many kids’ sketchbook drawings are scanned and uploaded to the Megabolt website, where you can digitally flip through their masterpieces.
Clocking in at $7, the 32-page sketchbooks from Scout Books are perfectly pocket-sized, printed on recycled chipboard—ideal for any art aficionado.
Big and small.
Megabolt took root in 2009 as an opportunity to help raise funds for a friend’s hospital bills. In 2010, the organization turned its attention to raising money for kids in hospitals, focusing on empowering kids to find strength through art to fight through their illnesses. Along with its inspiring line of Megabolt sketchbooks, the organization also creates and sells bold shirts, silkscreened posters, mugs, or hoodies, all to help raise funds for children with illnesses.
