The Grammys Get Real

It is Awards Season,  and almost every Sunday night for the next month millions of us will be watching a bevy of beauties sashaying down a red carpet, and sniffing over heartfelt acceptance speeches.

Sunday, Feb. 13. At 8pm, CBS television will be hosting the 53rd annual Grammy Awards and this year, a few nominees hope to not only fetch the coveted Grammy Award, but bring light to social issues as well.

Musicians over the centuries have always been the voice of change. John Lennon’s Give Peace A Chance,  Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On,  almost every U2 Song.... and list goes on.
The Grammy Awards is honoring 3 musicians that are singing out, hoping to make a difference and get their message heard.

Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” is a song that also features recording artist Rihanna and is up for best song of the year. Eminem leads the Grammys with 10 nominations, including best album of the year. Eminem and Rihanna sing a melodic lament about the ups and downs of an ultimately abusive relationship. Dating violence is more common than you might think. Visit the CDC’s website for more information.

Carrie Underwood’s song “Temporary Home” is the detailed story of a little boy who is sent from one foster home to another. It also spins the portrayal of a homeless woman and her daughter who are longing for a place to call home. Underwood’s song landed her a “Best Female Country Vocal Performance nomination.” Learn more about the problems facing the foster care system and homelessness, and how you can help.

Bruno Mars’ song entitled “Just The Way You Are.” The song highlights the positive message about being loved as you were created. In a culture that heavily promotes a nearly unattainable version of “beauty,” this song is a wind tunnel of fresh air to those who need to accept themselves for who they are and promote tolerance of others.

Let’s all tune into the Grammys Sunday night, buy and share their music, and support the causes.
