Two True Gems
These two jewelers prove that beauty isn't just in the eye of the beholder... it's in every act of giving, too.
3-Om: Globally-Inspired Charms
Friends Lee Baldwin and Katie Melnick string together their precious, semi-precious, and wood + bone bracelets using natural elements, and in turn give a portion of each sale toward two causes close to their hearts: spinal muscle atrophy (SMA) and Fragile X syndrome.
These simple, pretty pieces are sold through special trunk shows benefiting charities dedicated to spreading awareness of both conditions and finding a cure for each.
"Charms inspired by Lee and Kate’s travels tell a story about their roads towards personal and spiritual growth," 3-Om explains. "The intention and energy infused in each piece offer protection and guidance, lighting the way for individual journeys." With that much love and light infused into each piece, it's difficult to choose a favorite!
Molly Roberts: Made from the Heart
In case you're wondering how in the world Molly Roberts has such an eye for edgy, of-the-moment design that appeals to the youthful spirit in all of us, the answer is simple: she's a teenager herself, and an impressive one at that.
The enterprising Ms. Roberts wanted to do something bold to contribute to research efforts for curing Crohn's disease, a condition with which she was diagnosed at age 11. After taking a jewelry class with her mother, she launched a website to sell her own handmade bracelets, and has since expanded the line.
Proceeds from her quirky pieces, featuring wishbones, skulls, clovers and more, are donated to the Children's IBD Center at Mount Sinai, and past donations have been made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. The ninth grader's sweet creations ($40-350) are available online.
All Wrapped Up
Are you as charmed (ahem) as we are by these industrious jewelers? With such worthy causes benefiting from the beauty of these pieces, we have to admit, a second glance at each reveals an even deeper level of appreciation.
