U2 Can Help
There is no doubt Bono is a great singer and a great humanitarian.
So it comes as no surprise that when Bono was speaking to friends about how he could help with the famine crisis in Somalia, someone pointed out that Minneapolis has one of the largest Somali populations in the US, and since he was due to perform there last week, he arranged to meet with some local Somali-centric organizations to figure out ways to help those that have been devastated by the great famine in the Horn of Africa.
Well, talk about being in the right place at the right time ... Somali pop star K’naan came to join the discussion and also joined Bono onstage for a memorable rendition of Stand By Me.
Last week, the U.N. official in charge of humanitarian aid to Somalia stressed that southern parts of the country are experiencing famine from widespread drought. The World Food Programme estimates that more than 11.3 million people need aid across drought-hit East Africa.
Bono pledged the support of his charity ONE, an organization that tackles extreme poverty and makes a point of raising awareness and not asking for money.
Stand by Bono and the people of East Africa and raise awareness by signing the petition found on One, which addresses world leaders and asks them to urgently provide the full funding that the UN has deemed necessary to thwart this crisis.
87% of the goal has been reached - help push to 100%.

ONE is a grassroots advocacy and campaigning organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, by raising public awareness and pressuring political leaders to support smart and effective policies and programs that are saving lives, helping to put kids in school and improving futures. Cofounded by Bono and other campaigners, ONE is nonpartisan and works closely with African activists and policy makers.
