Future Fortified
If you could guarantee your children better health and a more prosperous life by sprinkling vitamins on their food everyday, why wouldn’t you do it? That’s the premise behind Future Fortified, a campaign that helps millions of disadvantaged women and children around the world get the essential nutrients that they would otherwise suffer without.
According to the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), the organization that started the Future Fortified campaign, poor nutrition is the underlying factor of 30% of all maternal and childhood deaths each year. The 1,000 days between pregnancy and a child’s second birthday is a critical window for ensuring a child receives essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, iodine, iron, zinc and folic acid.
Two
Billion
It’s overwhelming that an estimated two billion people around the world lack access to the essential nutrients they need for proper physical and cognitive development, but Future Fortified attacks the problem step by step.
Little Packets, Big Impact
Future Fortified raises funds and then invests in local companies to produce the vitamin packets and educate the population about proper nutrition. Because these packets are produced and sold locally, for just pennies a day, the solution is sustainable and can make a big impact over time.
Next up…Kenya
Focusing on one country at a time, Future Fortified aims to reach 50 million moms and children by 2015. The next country in need of help is Kenya where, according to Unicef, 62% of the children five years old and younger are moderately to severely underweight and have stunted growth due to malnutrition.
