Naturally Sweet Candy Guide
It’s a classic line uttered by moms everywhere wanting their kids to eat a nutritious meal - if you eat your dinner, you can have dessert. While, we can’t help but endorse a bit of childhood bribery (because it works!), we cringe at the thought of dyes and additives making their way into the youngest set. The good news is there are better, natural candies on the market, albeit still sugary. Hey, a sweet tooth has to be satisfied once in awhile, and we’re not just talking about the kids.
Jelly Beans & Gummies
Surf Sweets are the experts in getting jiggle in their gummies and giggle in their jelly beans without using corn syrup or anything artificial. Their goodies are made with real, organic fruit juice and packed with vitamin C. Loads of major stores carry this brand, so it’s super easy to find. Just check out their list of retailers.
Chocolates
Started by an argument between father and son over Halloween loot, Unreal Candy became their mission to makeover America’s best selling candy for the same price as the chemical-laden contenders. What son Nicky learned was that the worst parts of candy (like hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives) are used not to make sweets taste good, but to make them cheaper to produce. Grab your un-junked treat at CVS or Walgreens, or check for other locations.
Lollipops
Although their selection may be small, you are guaranteed a USDA-certified organic treat when you get your suckers from Strawberry Hill. Instead of corn syrup and artificial coloring, these lollies are made from cane sugar, tapioca syrup and colored with organic fruit and vegetable extracts. Plus, they have no gluten or common allergens like nuts or dairy.
Candy Bars
Justin’s Nut Butter went from crunching nuts for butter to stirring up the chocolate pot for a line of all-natural candy bars. We couldn’t imagine a bar from a company that makes our favorite almond honey butter being anything less than great. It lived up to expectations! You can snag your own nutty goodies at Whole Foods, Kroger, Safeway and more.
