Out of the Box: Snacks to Pack
When you’re on the go and your kids are seconds away from hurtling themselves to the ground in a hunger-induced tantrum the likes of which the “Super Nanny” has never seen, it’s easy to frantically sling preservative-filled and sugary snacks toward those gaping mouths. Hey, you want to keep the peace. We understand. To “keep calm and carry on” during your next jaunt, load up your purse or diaper bag with some our favorite healthy snacks for kids.
We’re super pumped about GoGo Squeez Applesauce on the Go which contains all-natural applesauce in a squeezable pouch – think Capri Sun-style packages, but with slurpy sauce instead of juice. They have a shelf life of 12 months, are BPA and phalate-free, and come in seven flavors. Bonus points: kids love them and there is zero mess.
Whether used as a lunchbox dessert, a potty treat, or as a quick way to get two more minutes of quiet in the checkout line, fruit snacks have earned a place in our hearts. We’re happy that Annie’s makes Organic Orchard Fruit Bites. They’re sweetened with organic juice concentrate rather than corn syrup and have a full serving of fruit in each package.
Packaged by nature, apples, bananas, and “Cuties” mandarins fit easily in small hands and make a great no-fuss snack option when you’re out and about. Dried is bad when it comes to Play Dough in the carpet, but when it comes to snacks it can be great. Soy nuts, boxes of raisins, banana chips and fruit leather are some yummy options.
If your kids, unlike granddad, have a full set of teeth and have been chomping for years, stick an all-natural granola bar or raw nut and fruit bar in their grabby little hands and enjoy the silence. We like Annie’s Organic Peanutty Chewy Granola Bars, and Two Moms in the Raw Cranberry Nut Bar which is gluten free.
