Space Case: 6 Great Decor Tips from Land of Nod
As we mentioned last Friday, Land of Nod was recently involved in rebuilding and furnishing several houses for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's series finale. To celebrate the amazing show, we asked Michelle Kohanzo, Managing Director for children's retailer Land of Nod, to give us some expert advice on decorating for kids. After all, the lady really knows her stuff—just look at those colors!
Want to make your child's room really stand out from the pack? Here are Michelle's Six Essential Tips:
1. Allow for some floor space—get a cozy rug and leave an open area in the room for your children to create – build forts, have a dinosaur fight, build puzzles, play board games.
2. Let your child be a part of the decorating process. Make sure the room reflects your child and his or her personality. Create an area with cork board where your child can display his or her art.
3. Color—it always lifts my spirit, make sure there is color in the room.
4. The bedding should be the statement piece in the room – look for something playful and high quality. Always buy additional sheeting, so that you can maintain the look during washing.
5. Wall decals are a great way to update a space and can really make a big statement in a room. The relatively low price point also makes them easily replaceable should your child’s taste change.
6. I love photos in a child’s room. Take a favorite vacation memory and blow it up – 18*24 or larger. My son has a photo of himself with a fish he just caught in one hand and a Klondike bar in the other—happiest kid on the planet!

What do you think is the most important part of a kid's room—the bedding, the decor, or the furniture? (Or maybe just the toys!)
