Spring Cleaning With a Purpose
Just as spring ushers in brighter days, it also flips on the clutter-busting switch. Once that switch is swiped, there’s no turning back. You have to clear the closets, empty the junk drawers, and purge the bookshelves. Below is your easy guide to organizations that will take your kids’ outgrown extras and give them a good home.
“A good book has no ending.” -R.D. Cumming
Reading Tree distributes used books to schools with a large population of low-income students and also partners with charities that support libraries and literacy programs. You can donate books at one of their blue drop boxes, or if you have a large donation you can schedule a curbside pickup.
Clothed in Caring
There are 29 million children in the United States in low-income families. Donate children's clothing to Goodwill or Salvation Army to help those families in need or contact a children’s home in your area. And don't forget about the shoes! Soles4Souls delivers pairs of gently worn shoes to people in over 127 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. Find a drop-off location near you and give a child some new kicks!

Seeing is Believing
That's how many people around the world need glasses, but don’t have them. If you have out-of-date glasses, you can help. It’s as easy as dropping them off at a participating optometrist’s office (like Lens Crafters, Target Optical, Pearle Vision, and Sears Optical). One Sight will clean, prepare, and distribute them to a child in need. Imagine giving the gift of sight! One Sight provides services in 37 countries including Romania, Bangladesh and Cambodia.
Fun & Games
Just by donating a gently used plastic toy, you can make a world of difference in the life of a disadvantaged child and at the same time help keep non-biodegradable plastics out of our landfills. Second Chance Toys accepts donations from March to April for Earth Week and November through December for the holidays.
