Toy Story: Kangarooboo
Imagine being married only 10 weeks and receiving a devastating diagnosis: Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Now imagine that after a year of chemo and radiation you beat that cancer. What would you do now?
If you are anything like 24-year-old Jennic Law and newlywed husband Justin, you might reevaluate your life. Not only did this brave couple beat the odds by becoming pregnant twice and having two healthy children, they also went on to dedicate their lives to helping children all over the world grow into healthy, successful adults. To this end, they hung up their corporate aprons and started a toy store.
KangarooBoo offers unique, exceptional quality wooden toys and smart children’s products. Their eco-friendly merchandise inspires creativity, encourage open-ended play and helps stimulate learning—plus they’re just plain fun!
The specialty shop began as an only-online venture before expanding into a brick-and-mortar storefront in the historic Valley Junction neighborhood of West Des Moines. Their children help them test products, and you can often find them—or Jennic herself—playing with the toys in the store.
Not only do the Laws offer parents quality toys and products, but they also donate a portion of each sale to a child-related charity. At the end of the checkout process, customers can choose the cause. Jennic says, “Everyday I’m thankful of what I have, and what I could have lost. Everyday I’m mindful that there are countless people who lose the battle, particularly young children. As a cancer survivor and as a parent, I am very committed to making a difference in the lives of children.”
